On Tuesday, June 16, residents of Herndon celebrated the reopening of the new and improved Station Street. Mayor Merkel, economic development manager Dennis H. Holste, Jr., former mayor Michael O'Reilly, Melissa Jonas and town councilmember Jasbinder Singh were some of the local officials who attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at the corner of Station and Center Street.
International Songwriters Collective Concert Held In Herndon

On Thursday, June 25, the International Songwriters Collective (I.S.C.) Tour made a stop at ArtSpace Herndon. Three musicians-singer songwriters are on a one-month tour: Jimmy Robinson from New Orleans, Lily Kiara from Holland, and Floatstone (born Brick de Bois) from Antwerp, Belgium.
Herndon Hosts Korean American Sports Festival
18th Korean American Sports Festival hosted in Herndon.
From June 19 - 21, Herndon helped host the 18th Annual Korean American Sports Festival. The 18th Korean American National Sports Festival (KASF) is a semi-annual national event where Korean American's celebrate heritage through sports. Festival President Ahn Kyung-ho said Washington D.C., had been the host to eight successful events. “Korean-American’s are the only minority to have multi-sports events in the USA and I am very proud to host this year’s event in D.C.,” said Sam Chung, chair of the 2015 KASF Organization Committee.

Herndon High School Choir presented the Pops Concert on Thursday, June 4 at Herndon High auditorium. This was one of the final concert shows for the year for students.

Herndon officials announced the Town Council will consider on May 26 the purchase of 1.67 acres of land in Herndon’s historic downtown. Combined with about three acres already owned by the town, the purchase will clear the way for a comprehensive development project, in accordance with a master plan adopted by the Town Council in 2011, according to a statement from the town government.

NextStop Theatre in the Town of Herndon hosted a TEDx event on Saturday, March 14. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global set of conferences run by the private nonprofit Sapling Foundation, under the slogan "Ideas Worth Spreading."

At Reston Community Center, the Classical Ballet Theatre (CBT) presented “An Evening with Classical Ballet Theatre” on Friday, Feb. 13. The show was a combination of both contemporary and classical ballet, and included original choreography by guest artists and CBT faculty as well as audience favorites.

For the second time in two weeks, a supermarket bank in Reston was robbed in the late afternoon. Fairfax County Police report the PNC Bank inside the Giant at North Point Village Center was robbed at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29.

Wet weather did not prevent celebrations planned on Saturday, Dec. 6 in downtown Herndon. Although it rained throughout most of the day, spirits remained bright at the Industrial Strength Theatre and Herndon Fortnightly Library, where winter holiday events were taking place.

This autumn fires affected residential areas, one causing an estimated $1.25 million worth of damage on Herndon apartment buildings. On Monday, Nov. 10 Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to the fire at the 13800 block of Jefferson Park Drive at 9:50 a.m.

The Little Free Library is a neighbor-to-neighbor sharing of books, and was made possible with the support of local businesses and the Rotary Club of Herndon

Herndon’s community art gallery ArtSpace Herndon opened a new painting exhibit to the public in November. The exhibit “Skies” by artist Bobbi Pratte is a collection of landscapes, painted in locations across the United States and Europe, with focus on the sky.
