Hornets Ready for New Season
Parents and faculty discuss new sports season at Herndon High.
Coaches’ Night was held on Aug. 19 at Herndon High School. The coaches of fall sports and athletics for Herndon High School students met with parents at the school cafeteria. “It is an informational session where you get and see who your coaches are and meet other parents,” said Jonathan Frohm, director of Student Activities and Athletics.
Northern Virginia Senior Olympics

Cindy’s Legacy to Host 2nd Annual Golf Clinic

Cindy’s Legacy, a nonprofit dedicated to providing services for families affected by cancer, will host its second annual golf clinic at the Herndon Centennial Golf Course Friday, Aug. 9.
Herndon Olympics Swim Meet Was a Splashing Success
Three records broken at this year’s meet attended by Olympic gold medalist Josh Davis.
The 34th annual Herndon Olympics was held last Tuesday, July 9. Hundreds of swimmers from nine local swim teams competed, allowing the community to come together to encourage young athletes, support local businesses and to meet Olympic gold medalist Josh Davis.

Josh Davis, who won three gold medals at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and two silver medals at the Olympics in Sydney in 2000, said about the Herndon event: “This is where dreams begin and champions are made as they take pride representing their neighborhood and their city. … Of the 4,000 summer league swim championships going on this month, this is one of the best ones in the country.”
Potoman/North Sends off Talented Players
The Potomac/North U16 and U19 teams, full of Fairfax County players, both took home the Gold Medal Saturday and Sunday, June 22-23 the VA Commonwealth Games (The Virginia Olympics) for Field Hockey at the University of Virginia.
Annual Herndon Festival 10k and 5k Races Held
The Town of Herndon held the annual Herndon Festival 10k and 5k races on Sunday, June 2. The competition had an increase in the number of participants. “We had a great turnout this year, about 250 more runners than last year, about a thousand total,” said Thomas Schoenauer, this year’s race director. Schoenauer has been working at the Town of Herndon as the Recreation Services Supervisor since August of 2012. Both races were run on certified courses throughout the Town of Herndon on paved roads. The event began and concluded at the Herndon Community Center at 814 Ferndale Ave. in Herndon.

The second annual Paige R. Saucedo Memorial ESOL Scholarship Fund Event was held on Saturday, May 18, at Herndon High School. The occasion marked the second anniversary of the sudden passing of Herndon High’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) department chair, Paige Saucedo.

Oakton High School’s Varsity Swim and Drive teams continued their undefeated season with a win over Herndon High School Friday night, Jan. 11. The girls won with a score of 197 points over Herndon’s 112. The boys won 194 to 121.
