Herndon’s first nanobrewery Aslin Beer opens in September.
On Sept. 19, Aslin Beer will open at 257 Sunset Park Drive, Herndon, and will be Herndon’s first small-batch brewery or nanobrewery.

Bicyclist Fatality in Herndon

A 38-year-old bicyclist died after being hit by a vehicle on Sunrise Valley Drive in Herndon on Monday, Aug. 31 just after 8 p.m. The bicyclist has been identified as Andrew Greff Gooden, 38, of St. James, Jamaica.

Torres Trial Date Set for December

Shortly after 10 a.m. on Aug. 19, former Fairfax County Police officer Adam Torres entered the circuit courtroom for his arraignment, dressed in a baggy, blue-green prison jumpsuit. Torres was indicted the previous Monday by a special grand jury for killing Springfield resident John Geer in August, 2013.

Herndon Holds a Vigil for Teenagers
Herndon was struck by a tragedy Friday morning, Aug. 7, when three recent Herndon High School graduates were killed in a car accident in Texas. Kyle Mathers, 19, Dale Neibaur, 19, and Holly Novak, 18, were beloved members of the Herndon community, which gathered together at the church to hold a vigil for the teenagers.

Summer Reading: More Than Just a List of Books
The Summer Reading Program runs from June 19 to Sept. 5 and is open to children from birth to twelfth grade. Participants in sixth grade or younger are to read 15 books, and those in grades seven through twelve read six. Upon completion, the readers may bring their list into the library and submit it in exchange for an extensive coupon booklet, as well as getting to write their name on the local library wall of fame.
People and Pets of Herndon
The Jensen family loves their new pup Ginger, a two-and-a-half-year-old beagle-dachshund mix. Ginger lives in Herndon with her family of four, who have been her proud owners for two months.
